How to Pick a Nearby Contracting Company & Renovation Contractor
Hiring a contractor can be a daunting job these days, especially with the media portraying so many stories of home renovation projects gone wrong, contractors walking away from jobs, or worse- off with your money and no job complete! At BCI Construction, you can be rest assured that you are hiring a professional company that provides quality workmanship, that can be trusted to follow through on their contract, and that provides you with a fair price and payment schedule. We are qualified contractors that maintain liability insurance and have WSIB coverage. We have over 20 years of experience in the industry and we are proud to say that our customers return to us for their many projects.
When you invest your hard earned money in a large project, you want to feel confident that you are making the right decision about the contractor you hire. Here are a few things that you may want to think about when doing your research:
-
Will your contractor and their employees have working at heights training?
BCI Construction employees have their working at heights qualifications, so you do not need to worry about being liable in the case of a fall.
-
Is your contractor qualified for this position?
Our contractors are qualified with either apprenticeship programs or college programs. Our construction contractors are skilled and experienced in the residential construction field. Whether we take on a new build project, an addition, or a renovation, you can be confident that we will provide you with exceptional workmanship.
-
Is your contractor insured?
At BCI Construction we maintain liability insurance, which protects you the homeowner. In the event that a contractor does not have liability insurance and there is damage to your home, you can be held liable. Working with a contractor without this insurance puts you at a huge risk.
-
Can your contractor provide a WSIB clearance certificate?
BCI Construction can provide a WSIB clearance certificate. However, as a residential homeowner, you will not require this from any company. Clearance certificates are required when hiring sub-trades between businesses. It is important for you to know this as an owner because contractors who have WSIB accounts are contractors who are “playing by the rules.”
-
Has your contractor provided you with a detailed quote that outlines everything that they are doing, the payment schedule, and the firm price?
At BCI Construction you will get a very detailed quote and a firm price. We have a FIRM PRICE POLICY. That means our price will not change at the end of the project, unless you the homeowner request additional upgrades during the project. These changes will be signed off and will become an additional contract, so there will be no surprises at the end of the project. In our industry, many contractors give you a low-ball price and then add extras in as the project continues. At the end of the project, you have a much higher price than what was originally quoted. At BCI Construction, we do not think this is a fair or professional way to do business. Our FIRM PRICE POLICY means just that. You get what is quoted. NO SURPRISES. NO EXTRA COSTS. We complete what is on the quote for the quote price!
-
Is your contractor experienced at obtaining permits?
This is just one of the many things we do at BCI Construction. Obtaining permits can be an intimidating task. We can eliminate that stress by handling the paperwork and meetings for you.
When you are hiring a construction company there are many things to think about. Remember just that- you are hiring a construction company- You are hiring a complete package. Do not hire your contractor based on price alone. To begin with, your contractor should be qualified, have WSIB insurance, have working at heights training, and have liability insurance. There are many more things to think about. We would love the opportunity to discuss these and to quote your project. Please contact us today for a quote and you will see what sets our company apart from the rest.
